RP Group’s Discovery Travel to open representative offices in Southeast Asia to drive tourism to and from the UAE
June 8, 2015
- Discovery Travel is among first tour operators in the region to organise exclusive group tours to less-explored SoutheastAsian nations for UAE travellers
Discovery Travel, part of the US$ 4.5 billion global business conglomerate RP Group, is planning to open representative offices in Vietnam and the Philippines as part of its concerted efforts to drive tourism from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to less-travelled destinations in Southeast Asia and also promote the UAE as a tourism destination in South East Asia.
Discovery Travel is one of the leading operators in the UAE organising exclusive group tours to countries such as Vietnam and Philippines, both increasingly becoming hot favourites among GCC travellers, who are seeking new tourism experiences.
"While we have already made our mark on the travel industry in the Middle East, we strongly believe that there is room for us to leave a further imprint, especially by leading outbound travel from the UAE to new and exciting Southeast Asian destinations of cultural and historic importance. Destinations such as Vietnam and Cambodia are not only beautiful but are also affordable and offer top-notch service," said Ramesh Patnaik, General Manager, Discovery Travel.
From bustling cities and colourful markets to isolated highlands and ancient ruins, tranquil lakes and sleepy beaches to wartime history and grand imperial architecture, Southeast Asia is luring an increasing number of tourists with its natural appeal.
Angkor Wat, one such important archaeological site, has the impressive remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire from the 9th to the 15th century. Ha Long Bay in Vietnam features thousands of islands, each crowned with thick jungle vegetation, forming a spectacular seascape of limestone pillars.
Patnaik added: "We are seeing a shift in the travel preferences of our GCC customers since 2011. Earlier, they were keener on commercial destinations such as Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. However, in 2012, more than 75,000 people from the GCC countries visited the Philippines and that number grew to 80,000 the following year, starting a trend that is showing no signs of reversing."
Discovery Travels, is also planning on opening an office in Kerala to drive inbound tourism from Europe to the south Indian state, with a stopover in Dubai.
Discovery Travels promoted the exciting destinations to Southeast Asia at the Arabian Travel Market 2015, the largest trade and consumer travel show in the Gulf region.
